VILLAGE PUB, restaurant and inn ON LOCH AWE, NEAR OBAN
The Kilchrenan Inn has been part of this landscape for generations.
An early photograph from around 1870, taken by Rev. James Bannatyne Mackenzie, shows a simple thatched cottage sitting quietly in the landscape; the beginnings of what would eventually become the Inn.
A century later the building had evolved into the Kilchrenan Trading Post: part shop, part gathering place, with a small pub at one end. Many in the village still remember stopping in for messages, supplies or a pint.

Over the years the building has changed shape and purpose, but one thing has remained constant: it has always been a place where people come together.
Today, the Kilchrenan Inn continues that tradition in its own way. We see ourselves as a single chapter in the Inn’s long story. Our role is to care for it well now, so it remains part of the village and landscape for years to come.
The Inn today is a food-led rural inn, shaped by the seasons and by the place we’re in. The kitchen works with what local waters, fields and suppliers provide, cooking everything from scratch and serving it simply. Upstairs, three (soon to be five) calm rooms offer somewhere to stay the night rather than rush home.
For locals, the Inn remains a familiar place to meet, eat and spend time.
For visitors, it’s somewhere to pause on the west coast, walk by the loch and experience this part of Argyll properly.
The building has moved from cottage to trading post to inn, but it’s role hasn’t really changed. It’s still here to welcome people in.
